Sam McLellan 

Scottish conductor, pianist, and teacher Sam McLellan read Music at the University of Edinburgh, studying piano with Peter Evans, and was awarded the Ian Pitt-Watson Memorial Prize for Conducting.  He later completed an MPhil in Musicology at the University of Cambridge, where he defended his thesis on leadership philosophies in modern orchestral conducting under the supervision of Prof. John Rink.
 
While at university, Sam conducted the Sinfonia, Chamber Orchestra, Composers’ Orchestra, Operatic Society, and Renaissance Singers, and spent three seasons as Conducting Fellow with the acclaimed Edinburgh Royal Choral Union under Michael Bawtree.  He currently studies conducting with maestro Jonathan Brett and is a Junior Fellow at the Conductors’ Academy in Budapest.  His training has also included work with Dr Amy Bebbington, Prof. Kenneth Kiesler, Holly Mathieson, and the late Nigel Boddice MBE.
 
McLellan now collaborates with orchestras and choirs throughout the UK, as well as in Europe and the United States – most recently with the Solti Chamber Orchestra in Budapest, in Orange County, California, and with the Meadows Chamber Orchestra in Edinburgh.
 
A committed advocate for music education, Sam is much in demand as a teacher, ensemble coach, and workshop leader.  He has served as an Ambassador for both the National Youth Orchestras of Scotland and the Royal Scottish National Orchestra and sits proudly on the Board of Live Music Now Scotland – a charity bringing high-quality performances by early-career musicians to underserved communities.
